An Uzbek woman has been arrested at a condominium in Bangkok after eight years on the run from authorities in her country.
Immigration police captured Sayora Melikova at an apartment on Rama IX Road in Huai Khwang district on Tuesday. Immigration Police Bureau chief Pol Lt Gen Sompong Chingduang said yesterday the 62-year-old woman was wanted by Interpol for human trafficking at the request of Uzbekistan.
Kritmongkut Buranapakdi, commander of the bureau's Division 2, said yesterday the Uzbek woman fled a brothel crackdown in southern Uzbekistan in 2011 and was suspected of escaping to Thailand. Meanwhile, two foreign nationals were recently arrested at Suvarnabhumi airport for allegedly using a fake visa from a third country for airport transit clearance, a senior immigration police officer said yesterday.
According to Pol Maj Gen Pruettipong, both men were charged with using a fake visa from a third country. A visa is not required for transit through Thailand but travellers must have valid visas for their next destinations.
Two Americans have also been arrested in Chon Buri for an alleged vandalism spree in Bangkok's Samphanthawong district on May 29, police said. Shea Turnbeaugh, 28, and Frances Gollan, 24, were taken into custody by tourist police in Pattaya on Wednesday night and brought to Bangkok for questioning.
Pol Maj Gen Achayont Kraitong, commander of Immigration Division 3, said the suspects admitted they had defaced private properties while they were drunk and that another person, a foreign national, had also joined them but had already left the country.
