Foreign Office warning to Brits planning Canary Island holiday after lockdown

The Foreign Office has issued a fresh warning to Brits planning holidays to the Canary Islands.

The national lockdown for people in England prohibits day trips and holidays, as those are not among the specific reasons for leaving home such as attending school or going to the supermarket.

The Prime Minister did not mention travel corridors in his Saturday night press conference, meaning people arriving home from certain destinations are likely to continue being exempt from quarantine.

However, following the regulations lifting on December 2, there could still be new measures in place for those with holidays booked to the Canary Islands.

The Foreign Office has now stated that from November 14 until further notice, if you’re travelling to the Canary Islands and are booked into regulated tourist accommodation, you will be obliged to:

  1. Produce an official, negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours earlier when checking in to your accommodation.

  2. Download and activate the Radar COVID notification app throughout your stay on the islands, and for 15 days after your return home.

Keep up to date with coronavirus cases in your area by adding your postcode below

These measures apply to all guests aged seven years and over, unless they have proof of travel confirming their uninterrupted presence on the islands for the previous 15 days.

Any traveller failing to comply, risks being refused access to accommodation.
