Foreign Office updates Spain holiday and travel advice after national emergency declared

The Foreign Office has updated its advice for British tourists heading to Spain after the country declared a nationwide State of Emergency which includes a national obligatory overnight curfew.

The new measures, announced by the Spanish government on October 25, also provides regional governments with legal powers to impose further mobility restrictions in their region if deemed necessary.

These restrictions are expected to be in place for an initial period of at least 15 days - but they do not apply in The Canary Islands, which are currently exempt from the curfew due to the latest epidemiological data.

However, further measures to control the virus may be introduced across the country at short notice, as the situation continues to evolve.

In light of the latest developments in Spain, the UK Foreign Office has now clarified entry requirements for travel to the country, reports the Liverpool Echo.

On arrival, travellers entering Spain from the UK will not be required to self-isolate - but they will be subject to the following three requirements:

  • All passengers travelling to Spain must fill out and sign an online form 48 hours prior to travel, providing the Spanish Ministry of Health with contact information and details of any known history of exposure to Covid-19. You can do this on the Spain Travel Health website or downloadable app. On completion, you will be issued a personal and non-transferable QR code which you must show (electronically or hardcopy) at airport health controls on arrival.
  • Temperature check
  • Undergo a visual health assessment

Anyone who presents symptoms or fails one of the above requirements will be seen by a health professional.

Spain reported almost 20,000 new daily cases and 231 more fatalities last Friday, taking the country's death toll in the pandemic to 34,752.
