Foreign Office updates list of 'safe' countries to visit after France and Malta removed

The government's list of countries and territories where Brits can travel to and not have to self-isolate has been updated again.

The update comes after it was confirmed travellers arriving from France after 4am on Saturday will now be required to quarantine for 14 days.

This is due to a spike in the number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The decision came after Boris Johnson said ministers would be "absolutely ruthless" in deciding on whether to impose the self-isolation requirement.

A rolling review system could see countries removed from the list at very short notice.

Last month, popular holiday destination Spain was removed from the government's travel corridors exemption list after an increase in cases of the deadly virus.

Recently, the government confirmed passengers from Belgium, Andorra and the Bahamas will be required to self-isolate at home or another specified address for 14 days on arrival in UK from Saturday.

This applies to UK residents and visitors to the UK.

On the government's website, the guidance to travellers regarding safe countries reads: "Countries and territories can be taken off or added to this exempt list at any time."

Now, the Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Turks & Caicos and Aruba will also be removed from the government's travel corridor list from 4am on Saturday.

The decision to remove France from the list will cause dismay for thousands of British holidaymakers currently in the country.
