Foreign Office issues new warning for Brits hoping to travel to Spain

The Foreign Office has issued an update for Brits travelling to Spain.

People living in England could be permitted to take foreign holidays from May 17 under Boris Johnson's road map for easing coronavirus restrictions.

The Government's Global Travel Taskforce will provide a report to the Prime Minister on April 12 setting out recommendations for how and when overseas leisure trips could resume.

Whilst the stay at home restrictions are in place, you are only allowed to travel abroad if you have a legally permitted reason.

It is illegal to leave home without a reasonable excuse. This means that, whilst stay at home restrictions apply, it is illegal to travel abroad for holidays.

Permitted reasons for travelling include work, volunteering, education and m edical or compassionate grounds.

However, Brits were banned from entering Spain on December 22.

The ban was due to come to an end in early March, but, Spain has now extended their restrictions.

The Foreign Office said: "On December 22 2020, Spain introduced travel restrictions on passenger travel from the UK by air and sea.

"These measures have been extended until 6pm (GMT+1) on March 30 2021 (5pm / GMT in the Canary Islands), with the exception of Spanish and Andorran nationals and those legally resident in Spain or Andorra."
