Forecasters issue another thunderstorm warning for Leeds with risk of more floods

People in Leeds should brace themselves for another thunderstorm this evening, according to weather forecasters.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for thunder, lightning and heavy rain, from now until 8pm.

It would be the second storm to hit Leeds in two days as the rain bounced down to background claps of thunder on Thursday afternoon.

There is a risk of hail in some areas but there is a chance the storm could be much lighter in Leeds.

The Met Office warning reads: "Most areas escaping the worst, but a few heavy showers and thunderstorms may lead to localised travel disruption and flooding today."

What to expect

  • Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater or lightning strikes

It looks as though Leeds stands a good chance of avoiding the worst of it, with forecasters putting the chance of any rain falling at all at just 10 per cent.
