Forecasters issue 15-hour torrential rain weather warning over weekend in Scotland

A 15-hour weather warning for heavy downpours of rain has been issued for large parts of Scotland.

The yellow weather warning for rain was issued by the Met Office for midday on Friday until 3pm on Saturday.

It warns that an area of torrential rain is expected to move slowly across much of the country during both days.

Areas that are set to be affected by heavy rainfall include Glasgow , Stirling, Dumfries and a large area of the Highlands around Fort William .

The forecaster has warned that flooding of some homes and businesses is likely, while public transport services could be affected.

All of Ayrshire is also set to be hit by heavy showers, just weeks after some areas were submerged in flood waters.

No further warnings have been issued beyond 3pm on Saturday, August 31.
