Ford to unveil hotly anticipated new Bronco this summer

Ford Motor Co. will unveil the new Ford Bronco SUV this summer.

The iconic vehicle, which Ford produced from 1966 to 1996, will have its world premiere in July, Ford spokesman Jiyan Cadiz told the Free Press.

Cadiz did not reveal a specific date or location, saying, "We will communicate more details about the premiere as we get closer to the date."

The Bronco, which will be assembled at Ford's Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, will go on sale next year. Ford will offer it in a two-door and four-door version. Ford builds the Ranger, its midsized pickup, at Michigan Assembly.

The Bronco is a midsize SUV. It's been previewed with the looks of an aggressive off-road racer and was the subject of the most SUV-related Google searches in 16 states as of March 21. That's according to six months of web searches for off-road SUVs.

The Bronco was also No. 1 in the upper Great Lakes, topping searches for off-road SUVs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, where it will be built alongside the Ford Ranger midsize pickup.

"The Bronco was extremely popular in its day," Cadiz said. "It's become a cult classic in modern years. It's been among the top vintage utility vehicles with Hagerty's valuation in the last two or three years."

First, Ford will premiere the redesigned 2021 F-150 pickup on June 25. It will be an online event viewable on YouTube and other channels, Ford said. The automaker will share the link to watch in the week ahead of the event.

"We say it's the era of the icons," Cadiz said. "We always have more Mustang news to make, the Mach-E is around the corner, so a lot of icon news this year."

Ford said its global launch of the new all-electric Mustang Mach-E has been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and is delayed until November.

The Mach-E SUV, which touts a range of up to 300 miles, has generated enthusiasm worldwide. Ford has declined to say how many orders have come in, except to say they're steady.
