DETROIT — Ford Motor Co., which announced in January that it planned to suspend political donations after the Capitol riot while reviewing the situation, will resume making them and will not rule out financially supporting Republican lawmakers who voted against President Joe Biden’s election certification on Jan. 6, according to a letter from Ford seen by Reuters.
Ford spokesman Ian Thibodeau confirmed the facts to the Free Press late Thursday.
The Dearborn automaker had suspended all donations. In the letter, Ford said it was "opting against a blanket ban on Republican lawmakers" involved in the fight against certification and will vet “candidates and committees on an individual basis," Reuters reported.
"In order to give these important discussions the time and reflection they deserve, the Ford PAC will be suspending new contributions for now," said Rachel McCleery, director of government relations for manufacturing policy, on Jan. 11. "Ford condemns the violent actions that happened this week, which contradict the ideals of a free and fair election and a peaceful transition of power."
