The couple, in collaboration with The Children’s Foundation, announced their ambitious plan to raise a minimum of $10 million to establish permanent endowments for these organizations. This initiative coincides with Ford Motor Co.'s investment in the renovation of the long-abandoned Michigan Central Station in Detroit.
The establishment of endowments for these ten youth-focused organizations aims to ensure their sustained presence in the community, akin to the historical significance of the train station. Endowments are financial assets that nonprofits can invest, with the returns contributing to their annual budgets. Interested Detroit-area nonprofits will have the opportunity to apply for the endowment program in June, coinciding with the reopening of Michigan Central Station. Ten selected organizations will each receive $500,000 to kickstart their endowments. The Children's Foundation will oversee the management of these endowments and provide guidance and support to the nonprofits over a two-year period.
The campaign also includes a matching component, where the nonprofits' fundraising efforts will be matched up to $500,000, potentially resulting in each organization having $1.5 million to establish their endowments.
