Ford adds to premium lines of Chicago-built Explorer

The 2021 Ford Explorer Enthusiast ST. | Provided

Ford is rolling out new models of its Chicago-built Explorer, offering more choices at a slightly lower cost for the SUV’s premium-priced editions.

Among the newcomers for 2021 model year is the Ford Explorer Enthusiast ST, a variant of the ST performance line carrying the same 400-horsepower engine. The Enthusiast ST model will start at $48,750 versus $52,830 for the main ST.

The lower-priced model drops some luxury features.

Also new for 2021 is a 3.0-liter, rear-wheel-drive Platinum option priced at $52,480, slightly less than the four-wheel-drive model.

Finally, Ford is introducing a hybrid version of the Platinum model starting at $53,085.

The models are built at the Chicago Assembly Plant, 12600 S. Torrence Ave. Ford said the vehicles can be ordered immediately for delivery starting this summer.

Ford earlier this year added what it called a King Ranch edition to the Explorer lineup, a model featuring an upgraded interior and sound system and its own grille and badging. It starts at $52,350 for rear-wheel drive and $54,350 for four-wheel drive.
