Forbes: Saints among the world’s 50 most-valuable sports teams

The New Orleans Saints aren’t the most-valuable brand in the world, but they more than hold their own thanks to a committed fanbase that’s ridden with them through some difficult times in team history. A recent Forbes report listing the 50 most-valuable professional sports teams in the world found that the Saints made the cut at the No. 50 spot with a $2.08 billion valuation, slightly trailing the Jacksonville Jaguars, also valued at $2.08 billion. The edge went to Jacksonville thanks to their lower estimated operating income ($63 million) than New Orleans ($115 million).

29 different NFL teams were on Forbes’ list, with just the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Buffalo Bills coming up short. Still, every team in the NFL is valued at well over $1 billion.

Ownership of the Saints transferred to Gayle Benson following the death of her husband and longtime Saints owner, Tom Benson, and she’s invested plenty in getting the team what it needs to be successful. The Saints haven’t lacked for resources to pursue free agents or additions to the coaching staff and front office, while also adding new amenities for fans such as covered, misting seating at training camp. Now if only she could do something about the concession prices.
