Forbes ranks LeBron James No. 3 in SportsMoney Index behind Nike, Pepsi

While it’s been a rough year for LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on the court, it’s still undoubtedly great being LeBron James. You probably already knew that, but the folks at Forbes put a number to James’ success.

Forbes released their new SportsMoney Index, a ranking that seeks to put teams, players and brands involved in sports in terms of their monetary impact. And James was one of only two individuals to rank in Forbes top 10, coming in at No. 3. The other individual, Lionel Messi, came in No. 6.

Only Nike and PepsiCo ranked ahead of LeBron James in the Forbes ranking. The Los Angeles Lakers, despite all their struggles in terms of actual basketball, rank 7th.

The folks at Forbes estimate that LeBron James made $89 million last year between his team salary and his various endorsements. That doesn’t even include whatever he may be making from other businesses, like the sports media company UNINTERRUPTED or production company SpringHill Entertainment.
