Javad Marandi – An Apology
In our article of 10 April, we stated that Mr Marandi was a “trusted middleman” for a company named Unaoil, which was alleged to have been corrupt, engaged in bribery and is the subject of an SFO investigation. We accept that Mr Marandi has no knowledge of any alleged corruption, nor made any corrupt payments on Unaoil’s behalf. We apologise to Mr Marandi for any suggestion by us to the contrary.
A photograph that accompanied an article, “Reboot for a feud forged in blood” (Euro 2016 supplement, 26 June, page 12) in anticipation of the following day’s Italy v Spain match, was wrongly captioned “Italy’s Luca Toni tries to push Carles Puyol off the ball in the Euro 2008 quarter-final”. That should have been Italy’s Massimo Ambrosini.
“Canny Jones uses wit and ruthlessness for victory” (Rugby Union, Third Test, 26 June, page 4, Sport, early editions) erred in misspelling Maro Itoje’s first name as Mario; Dylan Hartley’s record as captain was nine out of nine wins, not eight out of eight; and Owen Farrell changed positions; he did not come on to replace Luther Burrell.
