Our Profile of Nobel peace prize winner Juan Manuel Santos (last week, page 36) said he fought and won the 2010 Colombian presidential election “against former president Alavaro Uribe’s nominee”. This was incorrect: Santos was Uribe’s nominee. We also named Farc’s supreme commander, nicknamed Timochenko, as Timeleón Londoño. He is Rodrigo Londoño Echeverri.
Our New Review cover feature on the 50th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster was illustrated inside with a large photograph of tired rescuers queuing for tea. Despite the evident inversion of the lettering on a civil defence warden’s shoulder badge, we failed to notice that the picture had been supplied “flipped” by Getty Images. Apologies. We also miscredited the picture of Jeff Edwards, the last child to be rescued. It was taken by IC Rapoport for Life magazine.
Our piece on Zen cookery ended enigmatically in the middle of a sentence. Apologies. The full quote from the “philosopher chef” Jeong Kwan [about herbs and vegetables] should have read: “That energy comes out when I prepare them in a meal.” (Magazine, last week, page 42).
