For the record

Our news story “Bono: controversial tax laws have brought Ireland the only prosperity it’s ever known” (Last week, page 3) implied the U2 singer Bono was backing multinational tax avoidance strategies, including the “Double Irish” loophole. Bono has asked us to state that he does not support such measures. A subheading, written in the editing process, was wrong to say that Bono was “wading into the row over Apple” and alleged Irish state aid; Bono’s remarks, drawn from an interview in the New Review, were in support of the Irish government’s right to set a competitive corporate tax rate.

The South Ribble constituency is in Lancashire, not Yorkshire (“Crosby under new fire over tobacco lobbying”, News, last week, page 16).
