A letter from Peter Atkinson of Brighton (“We know what it’s like to live under Green rule. Calamitous”, Letters, 8 February, page 36) should have declared that Mr Atkinson is a Labour candidate for North Portslade in next May’s Brighton & Hove council elections.
A fact box accompanying our interview with the artist Marlene Dumas and headlined Life in Brief (New Review, 11 Jan, page 19) mistakenly said the painter’s first solo London show was at the Frith Street Gallery in 2004. She actually had a solo exhibition at the Tate Gallery in 1996.
Usage corner: “His look conveyed both his total assurance and his disinterest in anything other than possession.” “Disinterest” indicates impartiality, not “lack of interest”, which is what we meant. (“Strauss-Kahn in the dock: a ringside seat at the trial”, New Review, last week, page 14).
A subheading on “Super bowls” (Food and Drink, Magazine, last week, page 41) spoke of “a steam pudding, puttering away in the oven and filling the kitchen with a glorious sense of expectation”. The clue is in the name: steamed puddings steam in a saucepan on top of the stove. Happy eating.
