Our business leader last week (“If we get smarter, we won’t need so much power. Tell that to British Gas”, last week, page 38), mistakenly said that National Grid was not the system operator in Scotland. In fact, it has responsibility for balancing the whole energy system in Britain.
Contrary to “Tory climbdown over pay-to-stay plan to raise social housing rents” (News, last week, page 4) the Local Government Association is not “Tory controlled”. No political group currently has a majority, though as the Conservative group is the largest it provides the chair, following convention.
Kitchen corner: our spiced quince cake recipe (Magazine, last week, page 31) is in need of 1tsp of baking powder and its accompanying pear, chocolate and hazelnut cake requires 125g of softened butter, not a mere 25g. Also, as the picture made clear in our restaurant review (Magazine, page 37), a dessert served at Native, Neals Yard, London, is made with stewed rhubarb – not stewed rosemary.
Correction to a correction: Caroline Lucas is the former, not the current, leader of the Green party (For the Record, last week, page 34).
