Contrary to our Tory conference special headlined “Did David Cameron’s speech manage to capture the centre ground?” (In Focus, last week, page 26), Tristram Hunt, MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central, is not shadow education secretary – he was one of the first to resign from the shadow cabinet following Jeremy Corbyn’s election as leader. The new shadow education secretary is Lucy Powell.
Economists at Goldman Sachs do not estimate that extra spending on 800,000 migrants from Syria and elsewhere will boost German GDP by 3%. The correct figure is 0.3%. The error was ours. (“Germans get ready for more woe as scandal and slowdown hit economy”, Business, page 43, last week).
“Scouts first female leader vows to get more girls around the campfire” (News, last week, page 21) said the Boys’ Brigade was a single-sex organisation. Despite its name, girls have been admitted to its Girls’ Association since 2008.
