For the record

An editing error in our story about a Liberal Democrat conference debate led us to mistakenly reappoint Baroness Walmsley as Lib Dem home affairs spokesperson. She left the role in 2004. (“Call for school and care home staff to have legal duty to report suspected child abuse”, News, last week, page 12).

Our TV listing for BBC2’s Long Shadow referred to “the Sudetenland in the former Czech Republic”. The Republic is still very much with us; we meant the former Czechoslavakia (New Review, last week, page 44).

A photograph illustrating “Apple made Cork a tech centre” (In Focus, last week, page 34) was captioned “Cork waterfront and St Coleman’s cathedral.” The picture actually showed the town of Cobh. It lies at the mouth of Cork harbour and is about 13 miles from Cork city and 15 miles from the Apple factory.

We are a nation of animal-lovers but it’s probably best not to follow our exhortation to “befriend” the resident water buffalo at the Teifi Marshes nature reserve in Wales (“Give me a break”, Magazine, last week, page 59). Apart from not currently being resident (they roam the marshes only in summer) buffaloes are unpredictable creatures and should be treated with caution.
