For almost a decade, Biotherm has raised awareness on ocean conservation through its "Water Lovers" programme and partnerships with activists, artists and NGOs.
The commitment is reinforced with a local recycling campaign and a new uniform made from recycled materials.
The "BIOTHERM#RECYCLESAVEOCEAN WITH GEPP" project invites people to drop off discarded bottles of skincare products at five of its cosmetic counters in Bangkok.
Through its GEPP Sa-ard digital platform, the start-up aims to sustainably manage waste while educating people and generating data as well as serve as a consultant to companies and communities.
Knowing and sorting waste effectively will significantly help reduce environmentally damaging landfills and open burning.
Various recycling projects have targeted water bottles. "Knowing Your Waste" extends to skincare bottles made from glass, PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and HDPE (high-density polyethylene).
The bottles will be collected by GEPP and sorted for the recycling process. Running until the end of May 2022, the collaboration with Biotherm will contribute to the reduction of marine plastic pollution.
The Water Lovers initiative was launched in 2012 when Biotherm began supporting Mission Blue to protect aquatic areas, named Hope Spots, which are critical to the health of the oceans.
Last year, the French beauty brand partnered with Surfrider Foundation Europe to raise public awareness of plastic pollution and step up its beach cleaning operation.
This year, Biotherm announced another partnership with Plastic Oceans, a non-profit organisation whose goal is to change consumer behaviour, corporate and public policy, and foster solutions to plastic pollution. From the sales of Biotherm x Coco Capitán sets, the brand will make a donation to support the cleaning up of more shorelines.
The Spanish-born Capitán collaborated with Biotherm for the "A Voice For The Ocean" campaign, which underlines how phytoplankton are indispensable for a healthy ocean and that more than half of the oxygen produced on Earth comes from the free-floating, microscopic organisms.
The phytoplankton and marine ecosystem, however, are threatened by climate change, plastic pollution and other environmental disruptions.
The "Biotherm x Coco Capitán" collection features packaging with the word "sail" crossed out on the artist's thought-provoking message: "How do you sail breathe without the sea?"
Water is at the heart of Biotherm's DNA and products as the signature ingredient Life Plankton originated from thermal springs of the French Pyrenees Mountains.
The brand's sustainable "Blue Beauty" approaches include using more renewable ingredients and formulating products that respect the ocean and aquatic life.
In addition, sustainable materials are used for packaging such as PET bottles made with recycled plastic.
The sustainable design solutions include new uniforms made with Seaqual filaments, recycled polyester and organic cotton. Using the sustainable filaments supports the Sequel Initiative, which brings together individuals and organisations to help clean the oceans and raise awareness of marine plastic pollution.
Even the little details are sustainable as buttons are made of recycled plastic while the textile part of the zip and label are in recycled polyester.
The "BIOTHERM #RECYCLESAVE OCEAN WITH GEPP" collection units are located at Biotherm counters in Central Lardprao, Bangna, Pinklao and CentralWorld as well as Paragon department stores.
