For the love of kites

Kite-flying enthusiasts should not miss the opportunity to see traditional and decorative kites from around the world when a popular festival returns to the resort town of Hua Hin from March 23-25.

Held at the Army Non-Commissioned Officer School in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province, the annual "Thailand International Kite Festival" will attract 20 kite-flying teams from different countries worldwide, including France, Germany and Switzerland, who will display beautiful kites at the festival's Fancy Kite Show. Visitors will be amazed by giant kites in geometric forms and those in the shapes of superheroes and cartoon characters.

Another highlight is a show of stunt kites with flyers who will compete in a display of high-speed skills. Furthermore, there also will be a kite exhibition that uses interactive multimedia technology in telling the history of the hobby.

Thai kites will be dancing in the sky accompanied by a Thai classical music piphat ensemble that can be enjoyed during the Chula and Pak Pao Kites Show.

Family Fun Kite Activity provides an open area for kite-flying families while Ringside Kite Tour allows visitors to take photos with the kites and meet some world-class flyers.

In addition, tourists can pop over to the wind garden to see decorative items such as kites and materials that can be moved by wind and sound-producing pieces like turbines and bells.

Meanwhile, do-it-yourself activities will allow visitors to try making, drawing and painting a kite at the Kite Kid Paint corner or learn how to make and throw a boomerang at the Boomerang Workshop.

At Kite Weekend Market, visitors can see and purchase kites at colourful stalls amid the sound of music in a relaxing atmosphere. To please their palates, they can grab and savour famous local food from mobile shops. They also can shop at stalls selling local handicrafts and products from the communities in Prachuap Khiri Khan.
