Pete Carroll: ‘Everything’s going just right’ for Seahawks and Bobby Wagner

Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner is representing himself in his own contract negotiations, hoping to come to terms on an extension before the start of the regular season.

Wagner, while present at the team’s offseason workouts, isn’t practicing, because he doesn’t want to risk injury until a deal can get done.

Wagner spoke to reporters after the Seahawks’ OTAs on Tuesday and talked about his decision.

“I will be here,” Wagner said. “That’s my participation. I will be here helping the young guys, doing whatever I can. But yeah, I’ll be here.”

Wagner said he and the Seahawks front office have been in communication, and for now he’s being patient and “letting things happen.” Coach Pete Carroll addressed the media after Wagner and was asked how the negotiations were progressing.

“OK, here’s the way we’re saying that,” Carroll started. “If you watched this as you have all throughout the offseason, there’s been a process of step by step and we’re right in stride with the process. Bobby’s been great. Everything’s going to come together in time. Everything’s in order and … it feels very comfortable and very amicable and all of that.

“So everything’s going just right.”

But until a deal is done, Wagner will likely continue to mentor the young linebackers and quietly lead the defense from the sidelines.
