TAMPA, Fla. — Six months shy of his 44th birthday, Tom Brady still is seeking ways to evolve at his position.
On Thursday, the Canton-bound quarterback, who has won six Super Bowls by excelling in the pocket, said he wants to flourish outside of it.
“I’m going to work on my speed this offseason, try to get my speed up a little bit,” Brady said during his Zoom session with reporters. “I see all these guys running around, I’ve got to make a few of those plays. I’ve already started thinking about kind of how I’m going to train, so I’d say that’s the one thing I want to go out and always keep working on.”
Mobility would be an element mostly missing from Brady’s 21-year career. His all-time regular season rush totals: 636 carries, 1,043 yards — an average of 1.6 yards a carry.
By contrast, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson ran for 1,206 yards (averaging 6.9 yards per attempt) in 2019 alone.
“You can’t ever think that you’re satisfied,” Brady said. “You’ve got to continue to grow and build and learn and evolve. Some things are going to challenge you, but you’ve got to fight through those things, and from my standpoint there’s always room for improvement.”
