What is the reasoning behind the models’ perpetually glum looks at fashion shows (Report, 1 October)? Is it because they hate what they have been made to wear or they have not eaten for hours and have not the strength to smile, or some bizarre notion that their lovely smiles might detract from the fashions being displayed? I really would like an answer.

• Nicholas Watt (Analysis, 1 October), refers to “the dazzling Brighton sunshine of a late Indian summer”. Strictly speaking, it’s not an Indian (that’s American Indian not Indian Indian) summer unless it has been preceded by a frost. Living just down the road, and a keen gardener, I can confirm: no frosts as yet. So, just a welcome late summer spell.

• “Aguiero and Mata restore English pride” (Sport, October 1). Must have been the inspirational half-time Henry V St Crispin’s Day speech given to them by managers Pelligrini and Van Gaal.
