For Celtics’ Al Horford, there’s ‘never been any doubt’ teammate Marcus Smart can man the point

Boston Celtics veteran point guard Marcus Smart played the point all through his college career, but due to the makeup of the team that drafted him over time, rarely played that position for the Celtics before the 2021-22 NBA season.

There were some initial doubts regarding the Flower Mound native’s ability to be a primary ballhandler and distributor for the team heading into the season from some analysts, but Smart has since proven the doubters wrong with arguably his strongest all-around season of his career. His teammates have taken note of his progress in this role as well, as related teammate Al Horford after practice on Wednesday.

“There’s never been any doubt in my mind about Marcus’s ability and him leading this team and being a point guard,” suggested Horford.
