'For a boy from Newcastle it was an honour to be in her presence' - Alan Shearer pays tribute to The Queen

Alan Shearer has paid a heartfelt tribute to The Queen following her death aged 96.

The NUFC legend said it was an honour to be in presence "as a boy from Newcastle". Alan shared a lovely photo of himself and Queen Elizabeth at Alnwick Garden in his tweet.

The Queen passed away on Thursday afternoon at her Balmoral estate after her family rushed to her side.

Alan posted on Twitter: "The Queen dedicated her life to the service of this country. For a boy from Newcastle it was an honour to be in her presence. Thank you Ma’am. For everything"

In a statement earlier today, Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

"The King and the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow."

Earlier in the day, the Palace released a statement saying the Queen was "comfortable".

The statement, released just after 12pm, said: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral."

The Royal family’s official website now carries the message: “Queen Elizabeth II 1926 – 2022” along with the official statement issued by the Palace.
