For 22 years the charity has looked after people in West Lothian

A West Lothian charity is celebrating handing out hundreds of thousand pounds to local good causes over the last 22 years.

The Levenseat Trust was established in 1997 in order to take advantage of the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.

And just in the last two years, the trust has awarded over £365,000 to projects in West Lothian.

These good causes have included churches, youth clubs, community gardens, woodland walks, heritage centres and model engineering clubs.

Trust members are always happy to welcome new applications for funding.

It supports the reclamation, remediation, restoration or other operation on land to facilitate economic, social or environmental use, community based recycling, re-use and waste prevention projects

And among its many objectives is to provide, maintain or improve public parks or other amenities, conserve or promote biological diversity through the provision, conservation, restoration or enhancement of a natural habitat or the maintenance or recovery of a species in its natural habitat.

It also supports the maintenance, repair or restoration of a building, other structure or a site of archaeological interest which is a place of religious worship, or a site of historic or architectural or archaeological interest and is open to the public and supports the provision of financial, administration and other similar services to projects.

Levenseat Limited is a Waste Management Business with both landfill and recycling operations based at Levenseat on the border between West Lothian and South Lanarkshire.

Spokesperson June Close said: “The Trust is regulated by SEPA a Scottish Government Body for the SLCF and this fund can be distributed anywhere in Scotland.

“We are managed by a board of volunteer directors.

“Applications are always welcomed from community groups providing they can demonstrate community benefit.”
