Footballing legend Sir Alex Ferguson stops off at intimate Lanarkshire restaurant

Diners and staff at a popular Italian restaurant in Bothwell were surprised to see footballing legend Sir Alex Ferguson pop in last night.

The legendary former Manchester United boss paid a visit to Rosso in Bothwell and was only too happy to pose for photographs with staff after his meal.

Rosso posted on their Facebook page: "We were privileged to welcome Sir Alex to Rosso today #legend."

Restaurant manger Lucy Grant told Lanarkshire Live : "He sat at the back of the restaurant and I don't think many diners knew he was in until he got up to leave.

"He was really very lovely and was only too happy to get a photograph with our staff.

"He was a lovely man and great to see him chose Rosso for his meal."

However, some diners were gutted they missed out on the opportunity to meet the former Scottish footballer.

Thomas Frendo posted: "Woowwww! Wish I was there."
