Footballers Wives is being turned into a musical which will debut next year

Two weeks on from the WAG drama that had everyone talking, a certain TV show is being turned into a musical.

In the wake of the whole 'Wagatha Christie' scandal involving Coleen Rooney and "Rebeakah Vardy's account," it has been revealed that Footballers' Wives is being lined up to hit the stage.

Seventeen years have passed since first graced our screens with its mix of sex, scandal and salacious storylines causing a stir from the get-go.

It might have been over a decade since it last broadcast on ITV but who can forget small screen gay icon Tanya Turner getting her talons into baby-faced signing Darius Fry? Chardonnay getting her fake boobs burnt on her hen night? A certain snooker table scene? THAT aeroplane encounter? Weirdo nurse Jeanette Dunkley? And of course, the "who pushed Jason Turner" storyline?

After all of the Coleen v Rebekah drama, Footballers' Wives writer Liz Lake said she was very keen to bring it back, telling Radio 4 Today Programme host Nick Robinson "I'm typing as we speak!"

But while a TV revival might still be some way off, a stage musical version is VERY much on the cards, with Maureen Chadwick, one of the show’s original creators, telling Radio Times its is firmly on the horizon.

The stage adaption will be based on the first series of the show, which followed Chardonnay, Kyle, Tanua, Jason and other members of the fictional Earls Park team both on and off the pitch.

Casting for the Footballers Wives musical is due to begin later this year, before a planned opening sometime in 2020.
