Footballers’ Wives fans are desperate for the television drama to return to our screens after the Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy spat.

The two women, who are the wives of footballers Wayne and Jamie, became embroiled in a bust-up yesterday after Rooney claimed Vardy's account was linked to "fake" stories about her private life "leaking" to newspapers.

The mother-of-four shared an explosive post on Instagram and Twitter on Wednesday, which claimed a person using Vardy’s Instagram had been “leaking” stories about her to the Sun.

Vardy, who has starred on I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!, has denied the claim and said she “never” speaks to journalists about Rooney.

The drama reminded viewers of the cult classic ITV show, which was cancelled in 2006.

As they digested the news, plenty of people shared Footballers' Wives memes on Twitter:

Others then pointed out that now is the perfect time for the show to return:

Others urged Netflix to buy the rights for the show and make the old episodes available for streaming:

Meanwhile, Netflix joked they were considering doing a documentary about the scandal:

Following Vardy's denial, Rooney's representative doubled down on the star's initial statement.

Her spokesman said: “It is irrefutable that the leaks came from one account, and one account only.”

Vardy, who is pregnant with her fifth child, had said she was “so upset” that Rooney had made the accusation, adding: “I’m disgusted that I’m even having to deny this.

“You should have called me the first time this happened.”
