Footballers show support for Martin

Friends and family of a man with motor neurone disease have rallied round to support him.

Earlier this year Martin Blair (33), originally from Livingston but now living in Kirkintilloch with wife Natalie, was told he had the condition and since then he has been supported by loved ones who have been helping him come to terms with the illness.

His older brother Graeme smashed Tough Mudder to raise money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, which raises funds for MND research.

And most recently his pals Tony Wardrope, Claire Beattie and Robbie Hawthorn organised a football match to raise money for Martin’s family.

Robbie, who stays in Eliburn, said: “The match took place on Saturday evening at Livingston Football Club’s stadium and we were able to raise over £2100 in just a few short weeks via Gofundme and donations.

“We have other events in mind we’d like to organise to raise funds to support Martin and his wife as they try to get as much out of life before Martin is unable to.

“We will be holding the football match each year, while trying to grow it bigger and better each year.

“The reason behind the football match was to involve as many of Martin’s friends and family as possible in one event and we all grew up playing football.”
