The Shankill native said: "I'm excited and nervous to get started on Dancing with the Stars. This is a whole new experience for me and one that will definitely take me out of my comfort zone but I’m excited to learn to dance and to enjoy the whole experience."

The footballing legend plays as a striker for Dublin’s Peamount United and Ireland’s national women’s football team. She is no stranger to RTE as she has worked as a sports pundit for the station commentating on both the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups and the UEFA Euro 2020.

Dancing With The Stars also confirmed Roche as a contestant on social media this morning, writing: "Soccer star, Stephanie Roche is no stranger to finding the back of the net, but can she find her feet on the dance floor?

“It’s time to go from football to ball gowns, @stephanieroche9!”
