Footballer son of Hearts hero signs for English Premier League side Brighton

The son of Hearts hero David Weir has signed for English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.

Jensen Weir joined the club on a three year deal from Wigan Athletic this week.

The 18-year-old midfielder became Wigan's youngest ever player in 2015 when he made his debut in an EFL Trophy tie against Accrington Stanley aged just 15.

Weir was born in England and has represented both Scotland and England at youth level. However most recently he has been playing for the England Under18s.

His father Davie is of course a Scotland legend having played 69 times for and captained his country.

Brighton technical director Dan Ashworth said: “Jensen is an exciting young talent and we’re delighted to have brought him to the club, because there was a lot of interest in him.

“He has made a lot of progress at Wigan this season and is a player we have monitored for a while.

“We’re looking forward to working with Jensen, making him an even better player and helping him to really push on with us here at Brighton.”

David Weir was earlier this summer linked with the Hearts sporting director job.
