Former Arsenal youth player and Stoke City striker Benik Afobe mourns tragic death of two-year-old daughter

Footballer Benik Afobe has spoken about the devastating death of his two-year-old daughter.

The Stoke City player, who is currently on loan at Bristol City, said Amora was surrounded by her loving family when she died in hospital after suffering a severe infection.

Heartbroken Afobe - who has also played for Wolves and Bournemouth - said the doctors had done everything they could to save his daughter, but that she had suffered "serious complications".

In a statement, the former Arsenal youth product said: "It is with an extremely heavy heart that the Afobe family have today confirmed the devastating news that their first child, their beloved daughter Amora, two, passed away late on Friday

"Amora was taken to hospital for treatment after unexpectedly developing a severe infection. Unfortunately she then suffered a number of serious complications and despite doctors doing absolutely everything that they possibly could, Amora passed away peacefully with the love of her family by her side.

"The entire family have been left totally devastated and heartbroken, and would like to ask that their privacy is respected at this incredibly difficult time."
