Footballer faces months out injured after 'freak accident' involving Ribena bottle

One footballer faces a long stretch on the sidelines after being injured by a Ribena bottle.

Aldershot Town's James Rowe dropped a glass bottle of the fruit drink concentrate and then cut his foot on the shards, possibly ruling him out for the rest of the season.

"James is a long-term one and he’s nowhere near coming back at the moment,” Aldershot assistant manager, and namesake, James Rowe told Surrey Live.

"It was a freak accident at home, unfortunately, I believe. It’s going to be months rather than weeks he's out for.

"It’s hopefully not going to be [the rest of the season] but it is a serious one."

Rowe's mishap is similar to Dave Beasant, then at Chelsea, dropping a jar of salad cream on his foot at the beginning of the 1993-94 season.

The goalkeeper stuck out a foot to stop the jar, it smashed on his big toe and severed a tendon.
