Manchester United are still cooing at Cristiano Ronaldo in the hope that their former hero is planning on scuttling away from crisis club Real Madrid. However there’s no word on whether they’re looking to bring back other members of their 2008 side, such as Nemanja Vidic, Park Ji-sung, Patrice Evra, Dong Fangzhuo and Wayne Rooney.

There is word on them peering hopefully at Gareth Bale, who could be off if clever Florentino Pérez quits as Real Madrid’s manager/president. United really know how to kick a club when they’re down. They also want Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion.

Chelsea have identified the source of their problems: it’s all down to a glaring lack of Michael Hector. They’re planning to bring the 23-year-old back from his loan spell at Reading soon. That will solve everything.

Just to be sure, though, in case the return of Hector doesn’t see Chelsea transform back into an all-conquering winning machine, they’ll also look to sign Sadio Mané from Southampton, who are desperately trying to convince the Senegalese forward to sign a new contract.

West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini is reportedly honoured to be linked with Liverpool. It’s not been a great 24 hours for West Ham.

David Moyes has admitted he would be interested in managing Leeds if they get some new owners. Do they have any nice hotels up there? “I would like to go in at the top end, but I could also be open to an interesting challenge,” The Moyesiah said. “Let’s see what happens.”

Unlike Moyesie, Zinedine Zidane isn’t up for a challenge. He doesn’t want to manage Real Madrid. He’s happy to let the show go on under Rafa Benítez. Who could have predicted that appointment wouldn’t work?
