Football team baffled over bungling contractor's wonky lines on their pitch

Players from an amateur football team were left baffled after a bungling council contractor painted wobbly white lines markings across their home pitch.

Solihull Council was mocked on social media by Castle Bromwich Alliance footballers after the shoddy work appeared at their ground.

Team members turned up to training on Wednesday and laughed at the sight of a squiggly half-way line and centre circle.

There was also a messy ring around one of the corner circles at the club's home ground on Bluebell Drive in Chelmsley Wood, West Mids.

Player Tom Payne tweeted Solihull Council a picture of the lines and wrote: "Council just did our lines, looks well smart."

After the straight lines were painted over by another worker on Thursday, the council tweeted back: "Smarter now?! #Nobodyisperfect #linegate."

A spokesperson for Solihull Council said: "This was the result of someone who had just been trained to use the equipment having their first go - turns out it's not as easy as you might think!

"Their colleague left them to do half of the pitch while they did the other, then quickly realised it wasn't their forte.

"Everyone has to start somewhere the lines were removed yesterday and have been redrawn today by our experienced contractors."
