Solutions

1:B - Fowler scored 163 goals for Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester City yet never finished higher than third., 2:A - James made 572 appearances for Liverpool, Aston Villa, West Ham, Manchester City and Portsmouth. Like Fowler, the closest he came to winning the title was early in his career with Liverpool’s Spice Boys., 3:C - Hughes made 62 appearances between 1969 and 1980. He was a non-playing member of the 1970 World Cup and 1980s European Championship squad, with England failing to qualify for a major tournament in between., 4:B - Arthur Rowley, the younger brother of Manchester United legend Jack, scored a whopping 434 goals after the Second World War, the majority for Leicester City and Shrewsbury Town., 5:A - Cannavaro won the award in 2006 after starring in Italy’s World Cup win. But the closest he got to winning the Champions League was when Inter lost to Milan in their 2003 semi-final., 6:D - Lineker was top scorer for all three of his English clubs: Leicester City in 1984-85, Everton in 1985-86 and Tottenham in 1989-90., 7:C - For a long time Van Nistelrooy held the record, but Lewandowski – a finalist with Dortmund in 2013 – is now out on his own with 64 goals and no winners' medals., 8:D - The brilliant Beppe Signori top scored in 1992-93, 1993-94 and 1995-96 (when he shared the award with the long-forgotten Igor Protti). The closest he came to the scudetto was when Lazio were runners-up to Juventus in 1994-95. Maybe if he’d scored a few more goals, eh., 9:A - Rooney scored 27 league goals in 2011-12, his best total, but he was pipped by his future teammate Robin van Persie (30)., 10:B - Xavi’s best years coincided with those of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. He came third in 2009, 2010 and 2011., 11:A - In knockout games from 2006 to 2018, Messi and Ronaldo shared 14 games, 48 shots, 1,270 minutes – and no goals.
