Football: Nazareth's Jack Shutack picks Rutgers

Feb. 04--Nazareth senior offensive lineman Jack Shutack spent a little extra time in Tennessee last weekend due to the Chicago snowstorm that grounded him in the Volunteer State.

But after returning home Monday night, he volunteered his services to Rutgers.

Shutack, a first-team Tribune All-State selection, chose the Scarlet Knights over Butch Jones' Volunteers. He also had offers from Iowa State, Minnesota, North Carolina State and Western Michigan.

"I came into the recruiting experience knowing wherever I go that the coaches are going to be the most important thing," Shutack said. "The people that you surround yourself with, you're going to end up like them, and I feel like the coaches at Rutgers really want the best for me."

Shutack had 12 pancake blocks during Nazareth's 14-0 season that ended with a Class 6A championship. The 6-foot-6, 275-pound tackle did not allow a sack the last two seasons.

Shutack headlines the largest recruiting class Nazareth has produced. Wide receiver Kevin Jackson (Wyoming), offensive lineman Mike Owens (Army), linebacker Decxavier Kelly-Martin (Illinois State), defensive lineman Dmitri Joe (St. Xavier) and twin offensive linemen John and Patrick Kilcommons (Dartmouth) will submit their national letters of intent Wednesday morning.
