Football match abandoned after brawl broke out on the pitch and 'player headbutted'

A football match had to be abandoned after a brawl broke out on the picth.

The incident happened at a Welsh League Division Two match between Aberdare team AFC Llwydcoed and Swansea's West End FC on Saturday, April 27.

Witnesses claimed some spectators were verbally abusing players and officials and that things "kicked off" when a West End player was shown a red card for elbowing someone in the face.

A neutral spectator, who did not want to be named, said: “A few of the West End fans were drinking and acting appaulingly. They were giving abuse to the manager. Two were very vocal.

“It is was 15 minutes before the end of the game and it was 3-2 to Llwydcoed.

“There was an elbow by a West End player which resulted in a red card and then it all kicked off. He wouldn’t leave the pitch.

“It was carnage, absolute chaos. Both managers tried to calm things down.”

It was claimed that during the altercation a Llwydcoed player lost two teeth after he was headbutted by another player.

The game was abandoned by the match officials with about 15 minutes left to play.

The Football Association of Wales said they had "received a report" about an incident at the game and were investigating.

Both clubs declined to comment.
