Man City win Champions League as Football Manager simulation predicts glory

A simulation from the popular computer game Football Manager saw Manchester City win their first ever Champions League after a 2-1 victory against Bayern Munich in the final.

The real-life version of Europe's elite competition is in danger of being scrapped this season as a result of the ongoing coronavirus crisis, with UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin admitting it will have to be cancelled if it cannot be concluded before September.

For a bit of light relief, a simulation of the game looked at how the rest of the campaign would play out - and it resulted in glory for Pep Guardiola and his side.

City had put themselves in a fantastic position to qualify for the quarter finals by beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the first leg of their last-16 clash at the Bernabeu, and they also made it through in Football Manager, with the only other English team currently left in - Chelsea - crashing out to Munich.

The pair made it through the next two rounds to meet in the final in Istanbul, and things got off to a great start for City as Sergio Aguero gave them the lead after just six minutes.

Robert Lewandowski equalised for Bayern on the stroke of half-time, but a deflected long range effort by Kevin de Bruyne gave City the win and provided Guardiola with his third Champions League title as a manager.

Unfortunately for City fans they will be unable to celebrate their maiden Champions League in real life at least for now, and it remains to be seen if they will be able to play their second leg against Madrid at the Etihad.

The furthest they have made it in the competition up until now was in the 2015-2016 season, when they progressed to the semi-finals before being beaten 1-0 on aggregate by Madrid.
