Football Manager 26‘s next major update has been pushed back after Sports Interactive discovered a late-stage performance issue during the build process. The update — originally scheduled to hit the Steam Public Beta branch at some point today — is now delayed, with the studio promising more information within the next day.
The rollout was first announced yesterday, November 18, on the official SI forums, where community team member Kyle Brown outlined plans for what will be Update 26.0.6. The is a significant one, featuring over 200 fixes and tweaks across the game. Among the highlights are adjustments to player wage demands, a new FPS limiter option in Preferences, and changes to how European coefficient points are awarded. According to Brown, a full changelog will accompany the update once it reaches full release on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store later this week.
Originally, the studio expected the update to go live on the Steam Public Beta Track today, followed shortly by console and mobile updates. Football Manager 26 Console was set to receive its patch on Friday, November 21, while Football Manager 26 Touch and Mobile were pending platform approval for early next week.
However, a “knock-on performance issue” identified during the build creation process halted the deployment entirely.
“As part of the build process for today’s planned update, we identified a knock-on that may affect the release,” SI shared. “We are continuing to investigate and will share an update later today to confirm release timings.”
Unfortunately, SI wouldn’t meet that planned release time and formally announced the delay that afternoon.
“The issue prevented the build from passing internal checks and we’ve yet to resolve it. As a result, we have made the decision to postpone the Steam Public Beta Track release for today.”
The studio emphasized that another update will be provided tomorrow.
While delays to beta-branch updates aren’t unusual, this particular patch carries added visibility because SI separately confirmed ongoing work on Match Engine improvements — a topic that has dominated community discussion since launch. More details on those match-engine changes were expected to arrive this week, but it’s unclear if the delay affects that timeline as well.
For now, players will have to be patient for any future improvements to the already-controversial Football Manager 26.
