Championship
• Brighton continued their excellent start to the season with a 3-2 win in their top-of-the-table clash at Ipswich. The Seagulls took a 2-0 lead after just 12 minutes through Kazenga LuaLua and Tomer Hemed, before the hosts rallied, levelling through Freddie Sears and a David McGoldrick penalty. Chris Hughton’s team took all three points when Israeli forward Hemed headed home the winner; they now lead the division by three points.
• Aside from the soaring Seagulls, three other teams still have unbeaten records. Cardiff continued their run with a 2-1 win at Nottingham Forest – one of nine away wins in the Championship today. Birmingham also won away, notching a 2-0 victory at MK Dons to move up to seventh, with a game in hand on the teams above them. Two teams without a win or a loss to their name met at the iPro Stadium, where Chris Wood’s last-gasp winner left Leeds unbeaten, and Derby without a win in their first five matches.
• Hull moved up to second after a first-half goal from Abel Hernández and a late strike from Curtis Davies saw the hosts past Preston. It was a good day for the three sides that have dropped into the division this season: QPR snatched victory at Huddersfield thanks to Tjaronn Chery’s late breakaway goal, while Burnley won 2-1 at Ashton Gate, with goals from Ben Mee and Michael Keane.
• Other away winners were Reading, with Nick Blackman scoring twice as they won 3-1 at Brentford, Fulham, who beat bottom side Rotherham by the same scoreline, and Middlesbrough, who were also 3-1 winners. They overcame Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough with Diego Fabbrini and Christian Stuani scoring the vital goals. There was at least some home comfort at Molineux, where Wolves beat Charlton 2-1 despite the Addicks taking a surprise second-half lead.

League One
• The top and bottom clubs in the current League One table were both in action at Bloomfield Road this afternoon, where Walsall went top with a 4-0 thrashing of Blackpool, who are winless after five games and look set for another long season. Romaine Sawyers scored twice for the Saddlers, who lead the table by a point from Sheffield United and Burton.
• The Brewers continued their strong start, racking up a fourth win in five games with victory at fellow promoted side Shrewsbury, thanks to Mark Duffy’s last-minute winner. Sheffield United won 2-0 at Swindon, their fourth win in a row since losing to Gillingham on the opening day. The Gills are fourth and still unbeaten after drawing 1-1 at Peterborough. Deji Oshilaja gave the visitors an 85th-minute lead, but Jon Taylor scored an injury-time equaliser for Posh.
• Elsewhere, Rochdale and Chesterfield continued their positive starts, with Dean Saunders’ side winning 2-0 at the Den, and Rochdale easing to a 3-0 win at home to Barnsley. Wigan and Bradford City, counted among the pre-season promotion favourites, both scraped 1-0 home wins, against Crewe and Port Vale respectively.
League Two
• There are just two teams in England’s top four divisions with a 100% record: Manchester City and Leyton Orient, who earned their fifth straight win at home to Bristol Rovers thanks to goals from Lloyd James and Jay Simpson. They are three points clear of Plymouth, who continued their good start with a 1-0 win over struggling Newport at Home Park.
• In the battle of the division’s predicted heavyweights, Matt Tubbs gave Portsmouth a last-minute victory over Luton at Kenilworth Road. Pompey stay unbeaten, while Luton have just two points from their opening five games. Oxford United, the division’s only other unbeaten team, won 2-0 at home to Yeovil with goals from Danny Hylton and Callum O’Dowda.
• Carlisle fought back from 1-0 and 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Hartlepool, with Jabo Ibehre scoring the winner late on. There was another five-goal game at the Globe Arena, as Morecambe beat Notts County 4-1, while the day’s other winners were Wimbledon, who beat Exeter 2-1, and Mansfield, who prevailed at York by the same scoreline.
