• Another defeat for Cardiff City, their second in a row, after they were beaten 2-1 at Leicester City. Paul Gallagher's goals were enough for the hosts, who survived a nervy finish after Peter Whittingham's late penalty gave Malky Mackay's side some hope. The latest setback means they are five points behind Southampton and six behind West Ham, who have a game in hand. Southampton got an important win against Burnley, beating Eddie Howe's side 2-0 in a game which was marked by Billy Sharp's first goal for the Saints.
• There were farcical scenes at Portman Road as Ipswich's game against Middlesbrough was called off after 37 minutes due to a frozen pitch. Around 1,000 Middlesbrough fans had made the lengthy trip to Suffolk. What a waste of time and money. When such distances are involved, the authorities are compelled to take the needs of supporters into account – the game should have been postponed on Saturday night.
• Coventry lost again, this time away to Reading. Bottom of the Championship, relegation looks like a certainty for Andy Thorn's side, especially after the departure of Lukas Jutkiewicz.
• There were only three games in League One due to the weather, and there were varying fortunes for the two Sheffield sides, as Sheffield Wednesday threw away a second-half lead and lost at Exeter City 2-1, while Sheffield United beat Wycombe Wanderers 3-0 at home, a set of results that leaves them just a point behind their neighbours.
• Hartlepool and Bournemouth drew 0-0.
• Only three League Two games made it. Torquay United's 1-0 win over Shrewsbury Town took them above their fellow promotion rivals and into fourth place. Leaders Cheltenham missed the chance to move away from Crawley after drawing 1-1 at Hereford, and Bristol Rovers won their mid-table clash 2-1 against Morecambe.
