Championship

• With Middlesbrough’s trip to Blackburn postponed, Derby took advantage with a home victory over managerless Fulham. A Tim Ream own goal and a late Jacob Butterfield strike sent Paul Clement’s team, who took just four points from their first five matches of the season, top of the table.

Hull climbed up to third on goal difference with a 3-0 win over Burnley. Jake Livermore, Abel Hernández and Sam Clucas were all on target at the KC Stadium, while Brighton were held to a goalless draw at Brentford.

• A late header by captain Luke Chambers earned Ipswich victory over QPR, while Sheffield Wednesday stayed on their heels in the play-off race with a 3-0 win over Birmingham, Fernando Forestieri scoring twice at Hillsborough.

• At the bottom, Rotherham moved out of the relegation zone after thrashing crisis-hit Bolton 4-0, while in another big basement battle, Harry Lennon scored an injury-time equaliser for Charlton at Bristol City. Josh Murphy snatched a late winner for MK Dons over Cardiff, and Nakhi Wells scored twice as Huddersfield beat Preston 3-0.

League One

• Life goes on for Walsall after Dean Smith’s departure. The Saddlers won 1-0 at Millwall to go top of the table, with Milan Lalkovic scoring the only goal. Fellow promotion hopefuls Gillingham and Coventry also won; the Gills beat Swindon 3-1 at the County Ground, while Coventry edged past Port Vale thanks to James Maddison’s late winner.

• Conor Washington’s double helped Peterborough beat Chesterfield and climb to fifth, with the new Spireites manager Danny Wilson in the stands. Southend boosted their play-off hopes with a 2-0 derby win at bottom club Colchester, while Scunthorpe won 1-0 at Doncaster and strugglers Shrewsbury and Fleetwood played out a 1-1 draw.

• Former leaders Burton’s trip to Bradford was called off, along with Blackpool v Oldham, Bury v Barnsley, Rochdale v Crewe, and Wigan v Sheffield United as Storm Eva caused disruption across the north of England.

League Two

Leyton Orient ended a run of five straight draws, beating Portsmouth 3-2 at the Matchroom Stadium. Ollie Palmer scored twice for the hosts as both teams finished the game with 10 men. Pompey lost ground in the title race as leaders Plymouth earned a narrow 1-0 win over struggling Yeovil, and Oxford strolled to a 3-0 win over Exeter.

Dagenham & Redbridge remain bottom of the pile after crashing to a 3-0 home defeat to Cambridge. John Akinde’s double saw Barnet beat Newport and Roarie Deacon scored a late winner for Crawley against Stevenage.

Wycombe moved into the play-off places with a 2-0 victory at Luton. The day’s other fixtures – Accrington v Carlisle, Hartlepool v Notts County, Morecambe v Mansfield and York v Northampton – were all postponed.
