League One

  • With Walsall not in action, Gillingham returned to the top of League One after recovering from falling behind inside four minutes to eventually beat sixth-placed Bury 3-1 at Priestfield. Leon Clarke put the visitors in front before Dominic Samuel equalised two minutes later. The former Sunderland defender John Egan made it 2-1 after only 10 minutes and although Justin Edinburgh’s team had to wait until three minutes from time to seal the win, Emmanuel Osadebe scoring his first goal for the club, Gillingham ended a run of three games without a victory.
  • Coventry also overtook Walsall but sit second on goal difference thanks to a 3-1 win at Colchester, who had taken an early lead through Macauley Bonne. A brace before half-time from Jacob Murphy swung the game in Coventry’s favour, however, with Marc-Antoine Fortuné adding the third.
  • Wigan, in fifth, won 2-0 in a north-west derby at Rochdale, and Sheffield United came from two down to draw with Southend. Bottom of the table Crewe lost for the 10th time at Bradford, who climbed to seventh courtesy of a 2-0 win, while Swindon made it out of danger on goal difference by defeating Scunthorpe. Doncaster also edged clear of bother by winning at Blackpool, likewise Oldham – winners at Chesterfield – while struggling Fleetwood and Barnsley lost to Peterborough and Port Vale respectively.

League Two

  • Plymouth maintained their lead by taking the points after a long trip to York. Jake Jervis and Graham Carey had Argyle two goals to the good at the break and although Ben Godfrey pulled one back for York in the 90th minute, the five-point gap remains over Oxford after they won 1-0 at home to Cambridge.
  • With a date in the High Court on Monday because of a winding up order submitted by HMRC, Northampton Town remain a defiant force on the pitch – beating Mansfield 1-0 thanks to an early Marc Richards goal that sees them up to third. Accrington failed to beat Newport at home, coming from behind twice to save a point. Bristol Rovers hover immediately below the play-off positions after defeating Carlisle 2-0, and Luton also climbed the table by winning at home to Barnet.
  • Stevenage and Yeovil drew 2-2, bottom of the table Dagenham and Redbridge did not play. On Sunday Hartletpool host Leyton Orient and Portsmouth face AFC Wimbledon.
