League One

• Walsall are the new league leaders after overcoming Burton in the top-of-the-table clash at Banks’s Stadium. Liam Kinsella gave the Saddlers a first-half lead before Tom Bradshaw’s late penalty sealed a 2-0 win for Dean Smith’s side.

• Bury missed the chance to leapfrog the Brewers, as Wigan stunned Gigg Lane with two goals in the last five minutes to wipe out Bury’s 2-0 lead, after Chris Hussey was sent off for the hosts. Gillingham complete an unlikely top four, sitting in third place after a comfortable win at Chesterfield. John Egan, Rory Donnelly and Harry Lennon scored in a 3-1 victory.

• Coventry and Sheffield United complete the play-off places after hard-fought wins, with the Sky Blues spoiling former manager Steven Pressley’s Fleetwood debut. A last-gasp Richard Wood own goal gave Coventry a 1-0 away win, while Sheffield United edged a five-goal thriller at Bramall Lane, with Neill Collins getting the winner against Rochdale.

• Fleetwood are now level on points with bottom club Crewe, who earned just their second win of the season at Oakwell. Finnish striker Lauri Dalla Valle scored the decisive goal as Alex prevailed 2-1. There were also wins for Southend, Peterborough and Scunthorpe, but performance of the day belonged to Shrewsbury, who fought back from 2-0 down at half-time to beat Colchester 4-2, with Tyrone Barnett and Sullay Kaikai bagging two second-half goals apiece.

League Two

• Portsmouth top the table on goals scored, although Plymouth can overtake them by avoiding defeat against Notts County on Sunday. Pompey overcame a half-time deficit thanks to Matt Tubbs, who scored a hat-trick at the Abbey Stadium for the second season in a row, and Cambridge’s Mark Roberts, who was sent off at half-time.

• Wycombe’s game against Bristol Rovers was postponed due to three Rovers players receiving international call-ups, and Oxford took advantage with a 1-0 win over Wimbledon to go third. Mansfield and Accrington continued their strong starts, as the Stags beat bottom club Newport 3-0 and Stanley won 2-1 at Barnet.

• Leyton Orient would have gone top with victory at struggling Crawley, but lost 3-2 to drop to seventh in a crowded race for promotion. Northampton round out a top eight separated by just two points, with Ryan Cresswell’s 21st-minute goal proving to be the winner.

• At the bottom, Dagenham & Redbridge remain in 23rd after surrendering a two-goal lead for the second successive game, as Yeovil fought back for a point at Huish Park. Morecambe won 3-2 at Carlisle in a mid-table battle, while Luton and York drew 1-1 at Kenilworth Road.
