• Usually we would start at the top of the Championship with these roundups, but it would be remiss to go anywhere other than Sunderland. After 16 games without a victory, all hope seemingly drained from them like a dehydrated piece of fruit, finally a win. New manager Chris Coleman inspired a 2-0 victory over Burton Albion, goals coming from James Vaughan and George Honeyman, to inject just a little life into things at the Stadium of Light.
• Back at the more cheerful end of the table, Wolves look like they are strolling to promotion after a thumping 5-1 home win over Bolton: Ivan Cavaleiro got two and the others came from Léo Bonatini, Diogo Jota and Willy Boly.

• Waiting for the relative scraps of the play-offs behind them, Bristol City produced an extraordinary comeback to claim three points at Hull: they were 2-0 down with 25 minutes to go, but goals from Aden Flint, Bobby Reid and Josh Thornhill sealed a win and may well see the end of Hull manager Leonid Slutsky. Just behind them, Derby bagged an impressive 3-0 win at Middlesbrough, Matěj Vydra helping himself to a hat-trick as they moved up to sixth. After the game Vydra’s team-mates all signed the matchball for him to take home, but David Nugent included a sweet message: ‘Any chance of setting me up?’ We believe that is banter. Aston Villa and Albert Adomah continued their fine form, as the winger scored his fourth and fifth goals in the last three games so secure a 2-0 win over Ipswich.
• Elsewhere Tom Barkhuizen popped up with an equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw at Norwich for Preston, an Oliver Norwood penalty was enough for Fulham to beat Millwall 1-0, Leeds were impressive in beating Barnsley 2-0 and the less said about Reading and Sheffield Wednesday’s 0-0 draw the better.

• Efficiency was the key for leaders Wigan at Rotherham, as they ran out 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Will Grigg, Alex Bruce and Michael Jacobs. Shrewsbury’s ropey run of form continued after they lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City: that is three defeats in the last five, but they are still in the automatic promotion places with a game in hand.
• Scunthorpe completed their sixth league win on the spin as they beat Charlton 2-0, Blackburn came from behind to beat Bristol Rovers 2-1, all three goals coming in nine second-half minutes. Fleetwood are now without a win in five games after they drew 0-0 with Blackpool.
• At the bottom, new Bury manager Chris Lucketti got a point in another goalless draw against Northampton, while Plymouth remain at the foot of the table after losing 1-0 away at Portsmouth. Wimbledon are just outside the relegation zone after they lost to Walsall, while Gillingham drew with Oldham.

• Notts County plough on. A Shola Ameobi penalty gave them the lead against Colchester, Sanmi Odelusi equalised with a minute to go but Ryan Yates popped up in the third minute of injury time to claim a win, 2-1 the final score. That keeps them level on points with Luton at the top of the table, who managed a 2-1 victory over Crewe. Accrington remain in the third automatic promotion slot despite losing 2-0 to Exeter.
• Wycombe moved a place above Coventry, after they beat Yeovil 2-1 and the Sky Blues could only draw with Harry Kewell’s Crawley Town, to give them their new full official name. Mansfield occupy the last play-off spot after a late Zander Diamond equaliser denied struggling Chesterfield a victory, and Swindon lost 1-0 to Newport.
• Mark McGhee’s first home game as Barnet manager ended in defeat, 2-0 to Grimsby, while Port Vale lost again, 3-1 to Lincoln.
