Football League ambition convinced 'excited' Zoumana Bakayogo to make Notts County move

Zoumana Bakayogo admits Notts County’s ambitions to get back into the Football League inspired him to join Neal Ardley’s Magpies.

Bakayogo, who helped guide Tranmere to promotion from League Two last season, , following fellow defender Ben Turner’s move on Wednesday afternoon.

The 32-year-old from the Ivory Coast says he’s relishing the challenge of helping the Magpies recover from the disaster of relegation from the League in May.

"This is a big club with the ambition to get back up into the Football League and I am really pleased to be part of it,” said the ex-Millwall, Crewe and Leicester City defender.

“I am here for the challenge.”

Notts’ latest acquisition started out at French giants Paris Saint-German, though he failed to make an appearance at the Parc des Princes – and says he’s looking forward to performing in front of the Magpies’ fan base having played at Meadow Lane previously.

"As soon as I saw Notts County were interested I was excited," said the left-back. "I have played here a few times and it's been a good atmosphere with great fans so I have enjoyed playing in front of this crowd.

"I'll get up and down the pitch - defending first but then the rest comes and I'll look to get crosses in."

Like Turner, Bakayogo will go straight into Ardley’s travelling party for Saturday’s season opener at Eastleigh.

“I hope to be involved on Saturday," added the former Ivory Coast Under-23 international.
